Men's Hoops Closes Road Trip at North Texas

HOUSTON — Rice closes its three-game road trip this Saturday, Jan. 19, when it travels to Denton to face North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by ESPN+.
Scouting Rice
• Rice is 7-11 overall and 2-3 in Conference USA. The Owls have dropped two straight after falling at UTEP, 65-64, last Saturday.
• Rice has four players averaging double-figures, led by freshman guard Chris Mullins with 12.8 points. He also leads the team in steals with 1.4 per game.
• Junior forward Robert Martin is second on the team with 12.6 points. He is connecting on 49.6% from the field and a team-high 43.8% from three, which is fourth in Conference USA. He's also second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
• Junior guard Ako Adams is third on the team with 12.3 points per game. He is connecting on 38.9% from three while leading the team with 3.0 assists per game. He also leads Conference USA in free throw percentage, connecting on 90.4% from the line.
• Graduate student Jack Williams is scoring 10.1 points while leading the squad with 7.9 rebounds, which is fourth in the league.
• The Owls are scoring 75.3 points but are allowing 79.3.
• Rice is connecting on 43.4% from the field and 34.0% from three while allowing 46.3% from the floor and 35.2% from three.
• The Owls are outrebounding their opponents, 36.8-to-36.4.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his second season leading the Rice men's basketball program.
Scouting North Texas
• North Texas enters tonight's game with a 16-2 record overall and 4-1 in Conference USA. The Mean Green had their eight-game winning streak snapped last Saturday, falling at UTSA, 76-74.
• UNT is led by junior guard Ryan Woolridge with 12.6 points. He is also second on the team with 6.3 rebounds while placing fifth in C-USA in assists (4.9) and seventh in steals (1.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5).
• Sophomore forward Zachary Simmons is second on the team with 11.9 points while leading the team and placing eighth in the league with 6.8 rebounds. He is also leads the league in field goal percentage (.664) and is tied for sixth in steals (1.3).
• Redshirt freshman guard Umoja Gibson averaging 11.9 points. He is seventh in Conference USA in free throw percentage (.837), eighth in three-pointers made per game (2.6) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage (.407).
• Senior guard Michael Miller is scoring 10.9 points while placing third in C-USA in three-point field goal percentage (.469) and sixth in field goal percentage (.555).
• Junior guard Roosevelt Smart is averaging 11.7 points.
• The Mean Green is scoring 75.6 points per game while allowing just 61.8, second in Conference USA.
• North Texas leads C-USA in both field goal percentage (47.5%) and three-point field goal percentage (37.7%) while allowing just 38.2% from the floor and 30.7% from three.
