Defeats 52nd ranked player in singles
The Lead: Michaela Haet raced to a straight-set win over TexasTech's 52nd ranked Felicity Maltby to highlight results for Rice at the first day of the Orlando Invitational at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida on Friday.
The Details: The Owls opened the day with four doubles matches, three of them against 16th ranked Kansas before facing 18th ranked Texas Tech in singles.
Head Coach Elizabeth Schmidt: "Today was a good day of quality competition. This is a hungry, young, and driven team that continues to grow with every opportunity they step on the court. There are definitely areas we need to still sharpen up, but also a lot of encouraging things out there today. Looking forward to getting back on the court again tomorrow to keep building on today."
