Victoria Smirnova captured the Flight Four singles title while Linda Huang and Anna Bowtell also completed undefeated weekends as the Rice Fall Invitational was able to complete its schedule under sunny skies in Houston on Sunday.
Smirnova defeated Jacqueline Pelletier of Alabama 6-0, 6-4 and South Florida's Nicole Dzenga, 6-3, 6-1 to win her flight.
Huang and Bowtell each won three-set semifinal matches in Flight Two that stretched over two days to advance to the finals, but faced opponents from other teams rather than face each other in a title match.
Huang outlasted Ana Perez-Lopez of SMU 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 while Bowtell shook off a first set tiebreak loss to defeat Alabama's Alba Courtina Pou, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2. Huang dropped Pou 6-3, 6-4 and Bowtell dropped Perez-Lopez 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Huang and Micheala Haet will be back in action next weekend when then compete in the prequalifying rounds of the 2018 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, September 29 & 30 in Malibu, California.
