Rice Invitational Opens Fall Campaign

UPDATE: Doubles play has been moved up to start at 8 a.m. on Friday
The Rice women's tennis team will open its 2018 Fall tournament season this weekend by hosting competitors from 15 schools for the annual Rice Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The Owls will host players from Alabama, Houston, Oklahoma, Maryland, McNeese State, North Texas, Northwestern State, Sam Houston, SFA, SMU, South Florida, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas State, UTA, and UTSA in singles and doubles action. First round matches in doubles are set for 9 a.m. first serves with the first round of singles starting at 10, but match times could be moved up due to developments with the weather in the Houston area.
Five of the teams represented ended the 2018 season ranked in the final Oracle/ITA poll. Rice was ranked 44th in the final tabulation, followed by SMU (54), Alabama (59), South Florida (62) and Maryland (69).
The singles lineup features three singles players and one doubles unit ranked in the initial fall rankings which were announced on September 11. Alabama's Andie Daniell is ranked 70th in singles, followed by Rice's Linda Huang (105) and Maryland's Eva Alexandrova (112). Alexandrova and Millie Stretton opened the fall ranked 22nd in doubles.
