Houston Tops Rice In Series Finale, 7-2

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The No. 20 ranked Houston baseball team recorded a 7-2 win over the Rice Owls to claim the annual season-long three-game series 2-games-to-1 Tuesday evening at the neutral site of Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.
Houston had two hits and took advantage of Rice issuing three walks for a pair of quick runs in the top of the first inning. The Cougars added another run in the third on a Joe Davis double, wild pitch and Lael Lockhart sacrifice fly. Houston then needed only a hit for three more runs in the fifth to stretch the margin to 6-0.
Rice blasted a two-run homer after a UH run in the seventh. Dominic DiCaprio drew a one-out walk and Braden Comeaux followed by hitting the first pitch he saw over the wall in left. Comeaux's second round-tripper of the season helped him secure a spot on the 2018 edition of the Silver Glove Trophy All-Series team.
Owl junior pitcher Jackson Parthasarathy was also named to the all-series team after compiling 9.1 innings while appearing in all three games of the series. Rice used a total of eight pitchers Tuesday to tie the season-high.
Rice is now 23-28-2 on the season. Houston improved to 32-20 overall.
The Owls still have three more games remaining this week on the regular season schedule, and all are on the road. Rice next returns to Conference USA league play with a series at red-hot FIU on May 17-19. First pitch Thursday in Miami against the Panthers is set for 6 pm (Central Time).
