
Riddle Earns All-Conference Honors in Discus

HOUSTON - Rice senior thrower Austin Riddle earned C-USA All-Conference honors for a second straight day, placing second in the discus with a top mark of 51.07m (167-07) to highlight day three for the Owls at the C-USA Championships.
One day after placing second in the hammer throw, Riddle earned his fourth all-conference honor.
Also earning team points for the Owls was senior Scott Filip, who picked up an additional three points for the Owls with a sixth place finish (7.48m) in the long jump after winning the decathlon on Friday.
In the final event of the day, Rice garnered four additional team points with sixth and eighth place finishes from Adolfo Carvalho (9:17.58) and Connor Meaux (9:39.07) in the 3000m steeplechase, respectively.
In the qualifying round of the 1500m, Alex Topini (3:59.10), Matthew Murray (3:56.50) and Matt Calem (3:57.99) all qualified for Sunday's finals. Later in the evening, Jason Bugg finished with the second-best time (1:52.20) in the 800m while Reagan Olguin also qualified with a time of 1:53.50.
As a team the Owls sit in second place with 60 total points, trailing only Charlotte (78).
Day four of the C-USA Championships will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., starting with the triple jump.
