HOUSTON - The Rice Owls men's track & field team returned home to host the 15th annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight on Saturday, claiming four individual victories and 13 top-three finishes in the process.
Rice performed particularly well in their throwing events, led by a career performance from senior Erik Maher. The North Caldwell, N.J. native set a new PR in the javelin with a winning throw of 66.23m (217-03) on his fifth attempt. That mark ranks third in Conference USA and 20th in the NCAA West. It marked the second straight year Maher won the javelin at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight.

Near night's end, the Owls received another victory from sophomore Adolfo Carvalho in the 3000m steeplechase. A native of Cockeysville, Md., Carvalho set a PR of 9:12.01 to win his first collegiate race.
