
Owls Run Win Streak to Six Straight, Beat Prairie View 68-58

Ogwumike scores game-high 27 points
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Rice Owls women's basketball team closed strong in the fourth quarter to run their win streak to six consecutive games with a 68-58 victory at Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon.
Rice (6-2) made a season-high 31 free throws on 38 attempts (82 percent), which included a stellar 14-of-14 performance at the stripe from junior Erica Ogwumike, who led all players with 27 points.
Rice senior guard Lauren Grigsby scored in double-figures for a fifth consecutive game, pouring in 16 points in 22 minutes off the bench. Grigsby made 5-of-6 shots from the field (4-of-5 at the free throw line) and played an instrumental role in Rice's big fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in the period.
The Owls dominated the Lady Panthers (3-3) on the glass by a 40-24 margin, led by eight rebounds apiece from Ogwumike and Nicole Iademarco.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quarter 1
Rice made just 2-of-11 shots from the field in the opening quarter but made up for it by converting 7-of-10 attempts at the free throw line and trailed the Lady Panthers just 12-11 after 10 minutes.
Quarter 2
Ogwumike scored 13 of the Owls 18 points in the quarter, which included a 6-of-6 performance at the free throw line. The Owls limited Prairie View to just 10 points in the period on 3-of-12 shooting and 10 turnovers to take a 29-22 lead into halftime.
Quarter 3
Rice was outscored 21-13 in the third quarter with 10 of those points coming from Artavia Ford (18 points). The Owls shot 63 percent from the floor but the Lady Panthers made four more field goals.
Quarter 4
Prairie View took a 47-44 lead in the final period at the 8:55 mark, only for Grigsby to give the Owls the lead back for good with a three-pointer off an assist from Sydne Wiggins. Grigsby would add a three-point play by scoring on a layup and drawing a foul, followed by another trifecta at the three minute mark to give the Owls a 60-51 advantage. The Owls, who outscored Prairie View 26-15 in period, made 14-of-15 at the free throw line in the quarter while limiting the Lady Panthers to 35 percent shooting.
