Rice Hosts St. Edward’s in Annual Kid’s Day Game

More than 4,000 Houston area students will be in attendance at tomorrow's game
HOUSTON — After an almost two-week break due to exams, Rice returns to the hardwood this Thursday, Dec. 13, when it hosts St. Edward's in the annual Kid's Day Game. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. CT and the game will be livestreamed by CUSAtv.
Scouting Rice
• Rice is 3-6 and has dropped its last four games after falling to Lamar, 75-68, on Dec. 1.
• Rice has four players averaging at least nine points, led by guard Ako Adams with 12.7 points per game. The junior is connecting on 40.4% from three while also leading the team with 3.3 assists per game.
• Guard Robert Martin is second on the team with 12.0 points. The junior is connecting on 53.0% from the field and 46.9% from three. He's also second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.
• Graduate transfer Jack Williams is scoring 9.9 points while leading the squad with 7.2 rebounds.
• Guard Chris Mullins is adding 9.6 points while leading the team with 1.4 steals.
• The Owls are scoring 74.0 points but are allowing 79.1.
• Rice is connecting on 44.2% from the field and 31.8% from three while allowing 45.3% from the floor and 33.0% from three.
• The Owls are pulling down 35.9 rebounds per game while allowing 38.2.
• Head coach Scott Pera is in his second season leading the Rice men's basketball program.
Scouting St. Edward's
• St. Edward's comes into today's game ranked eighth in the latest Division II poll. The Hilltoppers are 9-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Heartland Conference after avenging their only loss of the season to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 88-83, on Dec. 5.
• SEU has four players averaging at least nine points per game, led by junior guard Ashton Spears with 18.0. He is also averaging 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals while connecting on 47.3% from the floor and 35.4% from three.
• Junior forward Dorian Lopez is second on the team in scoring (12.1) while leading the squad with 8.1 rebounds.
• Sophomore forward Corey Shervill is scoring 11.9 points while connecting on 53.2% from the field and junior guard August Haas is averaging 9.3 points while leading the team with 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals.
• St. Edward's is scoring 87.5 points per game while allowing just 70.3.
• The Hilltoppers are connecting on 48.1% from the field and 36.1% from three while allowing just 40.4% from the floor and 29.9% from three.
• SEU is also outrebounding its opponents, 37.9-to-34.4.
• Head coach Andre Cook is in his 10th season at the helm of the St. Edward's men's basketball program where he owns a 144-125 (.535) record. In 15 seasons as a head coach, Cook is 263-165 (.614).
Series History
• Rice and St. Edward's will meet for the fifth straight year and just the seventh time overall.
• Rice is undefeated in the series, winning the previous six meetings.
• All five meetings have taken place at Tudor Fieldhouse.
