Men's Hoops Faces Houston For First Time Since 2014-15

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at H&PE Arena
HOUSTON — Rice will face crosstown rival Houston in the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup this Wednesday, Nov. 14 at H&PE Arena on the campus of Texas Southern. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be livestreamed by ESPN3.
Scouting Rice
• Rice is 2-1 after defeating Alabama A&M, 73-59, in the first game of the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup.
• Rice has four players averaging double-figures, led by forward Robert Martin with 15.7 points per game. The junior is connecting on 77.8% from the field and 80.0% from three while placing second on the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
• Guard Ako Adams is second on the team with 15.0 points while connecting on 47.1% from three and 90.0% from the free throw line.
• Graduate transfer Jack Williams is scoring 13.0 points while leading the squad with 7.3 rebounds.
• Guard Josh Parrish is adding 11.0 points.
• Through three games, the Owls are scoring 76.3 points while allowing 71.7.

• Houston was picked to finish third in the American's preseason poll. Senior guard Corey Davis, Jr., was selected Preseason All-Conference Second Team and freshman Nate Hinton was named the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
• Head coach Kelvin Sampson is in his fifth season at the helm of the Houston men's basketball program where he owns an 84-48 (.636) record. In 30 years as a head coach, Sampson is 584-318 (.647).
Series History
• This will be the 81st meeting between Rice and Houston with the Cougars holding a 62-18 advantage.
• It will also be just the 17th meeting as non-conference opponents.
• Houston has won the last four meetings and five of the last six.
• This is the seventh time that the teams will meet off-campus with UH winning the previous six.
• H&PE Arena will be the fifth off-campus arena that the teams will play in in the city of Houston. They have also faced off in the Astrodome, the Summit, Reliant Arena and the Toyota Center.

• When the Owls face Houston, it will be just the third meeting against the American Athletic Conference.
• The previous two meetings also came against Houston, with the Cougars winning both matchups.
