Mohamed Abdel-Aziz picked up wins in singles and doubles for Rice on the opening day of the Contender Crossfit Islander Open at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in Corpus Christi on Friday.

Abdel-Aziz and AJ Valenty raced to an 8-2 win in the A Doubles flight over Manuel Pilotto and Mauricio Grijalva of Laredo Community College and the had to rally from a first set loss to defeat Clément Sarradin of UTRGV in the A Singles flight, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6
