Niezgoda Closes Regional Action on High Note

The Lead: Anna Bowtell and Victoria Smirnova fell in the doubles title match at the ITA Texas Regional in College Station but Priya Niezgoda closed the Owls' weekend on a high note, capturing the consolation singles title with a pair of wins on Sunday.

The Details: Bowtell and Smirnova dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to North Texas' Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze in the doubles final. Niezgoda capped a run through the consolation bracket in which she did not lose a set in five matches to give the Owls their second consecutive regional consolation bracket winner. Savannah Durkin captured the title in 2017.
