NEW ORLEANS, LA--David Warren and Henrik Munch's tiebreaker win gave Rice an early 1-0 lead, but 28th ranked Tulane rebounded in singles to take a 4-1 win at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Owls jumped out the early advantage thanks to a dominant effort by Jake Hansen and Eric Rutledge on court two, followed by Warren and Munch's win in the tiebreaker.
Rice head coach Efe Ustundag praised the Owls effort against the Green Wave's stout lineup.
"They (Tulane) do not have any holes in their lineup and we knew it would be a stiff challenge today," Ustundag said. "We had a great start in doubles. Jake and Eric might have played their most complete doubles match this year. Henrik was really clutch today, he stepped up when we needed him to do so."
While the Wave started strong in singles, but Rutledge and Emanuel Llamas won their first sets in singles, but Tulane closed out the four matches it needed to clinch before either could put another point on the board for the Owls.
Rice will close out the 2017 home schedule on Friday when they celebrate Senior Day prior to hosting Louisiana-Lafayette at 2 p.m.
