Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang started fast but could not maintain their momentum as they fell in the first round of the inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells, California.
Facing Arkansas' ninth ranked duo of Leolia Jeanjean and Giulia Pairone, the Rice seniors took the opening set, but saw the Razorbacks rally to take a 4-6. 6-3, 10-3 decision.
They will take on Denver's Hada Chang and Julia O'Loughlin on Thursday afternoon in the first round of consolation play.
