
Unbeaten Month Nabs Zhang Player of the Month Honors

Wendy Zhang has been named the Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Month for September after posting an unbeaten record in both singles and doubles in the season's opening month.
The senior from Richmond, British Columbia opened her season by capturing both the singles and doubles titles in Flight 2 of the Rice Fall Invitational and then continued her winning ways by downing a pair of ranked opponents in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA/Riviera All-American.
Zhang dropped #89 Sophie Whittle of Gonzaga, 6-2, 6-2 and Elise Van Heuvlen of Iowa (#117), 6-1, 6-2 on her way to qualifying for the main draw, which begins today at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Zhang earned C-USA Newcomer of the Year honors last season after transferring from Miami to Rice. She was earned All-Conference USA first team honors in both singles and doubles, finishing with a 15-5 record while helping lead Rice to a fifth consecutive C-USA Championship.
