Zhang Falls in Second Qualifying Round

Wendy Zhang saw her seven-match winning streak in singles tournament play come to an end when she fell to third-seeded Felicity Maltby in the second round of the 2017 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Singles in Pacific Palisades, California on Tuesday.
Zhang, who was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete on the Month on Monday and was ranked 104th in the Oracle/ITA preseason rankings, picked up her fourth win in the tournament earlier on Tuesday when she overcame a loss in the opening set to defeat 89th ranked Anna Rogers of North Carolina State, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, before falling to the Red Raiders' Maltby, who is ranked 27th.
Lindsey Hodge and Michaela Haet each dropped their opening matches on Tuesday, but Haet advanced to the second round of consolation action on Wednesday, advancing in a walkover.
