IRVING, Texas - Rice senior vaulter Chris Pillow won his first career Conference USA Field Athlete of the Week award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Pillow highlighted day two at the Texas A&M Invitational by winning the pole vault with a personal best mark (indoor or outdoor) of 5.51m (18-1.00) Saturday afternoon to break the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium record.
Pillow topped his previous career-best mark of 5.50m and his height is now tied for the seventh-best in the NCAA and tops amongst all C-USA competitors.
The Owls men's track and field team will be back in action this weekend when they are split up between both the Houston Tune-Up (UH) and the New Mexico Invitational.
