Nguyen Advances to a Pair of Solinco Houston Open Finals

Rice junior Stephanie Nguyen advanced to the finals of the singles third flight and joined teammate Solomiya Zinko to reach the finals of the doubles second flight to highlight action for Rice on the second day of the Solinco Houston Open hosted by the University of Houston.
Nguyen defeated Vivien Borbely of McNeese State 6-4, 6-2 to move on to Sunday's final where she will face Holly Verner of SMU and combined with Zinko to defeat Lamar's Hanna Elfving and Anna Spengler, 8-4. They will face Yana Erkeeva and Dasha Sharapova of SMU in the finals
Zinko dropped a hard-fought second round match in the singles second flight to Charlotte Phillips of Houston 7-5. 5-7, 10-8. She will wrap up her singles competition with a consolation match on Sunday against Sasha Khadzhyan of St. Edwards.
