Freshman Lindsey Hodge picked up a pair of wins on Sunday to close out an unbeaten weekend to highlight Rice's results in the Jason's Deli Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Houston.
Hodge downed Polina Ivanova of Northwestern State, 6-2, 6-2 in singles and partnered with Alison Ho to drop Sara Castellano and Palma Juhasz of Kansas State, 8-6 to wrap up a 3-0 weekend in both singles and doubles. Ho finished the weekend with five wins (2-1 in singles, 3-0 in doubles). Fellow freshman Savannah Durkin finished the weekend with 2-1 records in both singles and doubles.
As a squad, the Owls finished the weekend with a 7-2 mark in doubles and 12-8 tally in singles during three-day, round robin format that was played on both the Houston campus and at Rice's new George R. Brown Tennis Center.
While the rest of her teammates will turn their focus to the end of the semester academic pursuits, senior Natalie Beazant, who did not compete this weekend, will be in action this week at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships which will be held on November 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
Beazant earned an at-large berth in the singles competition.
