
Beazant Earns Berth in Texas Regional Semis

Senior Natalie Beazant advanced to the semifinals of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional for the first time in her career while a pair of her Rice teammates continued to advance in the consolation round to highlight action on Day Three of the 2014 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University in Waco on Saturday.
Beazant, who is seeded tenth, bounced a pair of Baylor Bears on their home courts to reach the semis for the first time in her career. She opened Saturday singles play by outlasting Kiah Generette 7-6(11); 7-5 then came back to defeat Blair Shankle, 6-3, 7-5. She will face Houston's Elena Kordelaimi in the semifinals on Sunday. Kordelaimi defeated Beazant's Rice teammate, Katherine Ip, 6-2; 3-6; 7-6(1).
In consolation action, Alison Ho and Lindsey Hodge picked up a pair of wins on Saturday to reach the quarterfinal round.
Beazant and Ho combined to advance to the consolation doubles quarterfinals.
Action resumes at 9 a.m. on Sundday when Beazant and Ho face Incarnate Word's Rachel Sadiq and Taryn Strahl looking to advance to the consolation doubles semifinals.
