
Clayton Chaney Leads C-USA Decathlon After Day 1

Clayton Chaney, looking for a repeat as C-USA Decathlon champion, leads the event after five disciplines and one day with 4,037 points. The decathlon concludes tomorrow at the Holloway Field/Ley Track. Chaney leads Luis Hanssler from Memphis by 182 points.
Chaney won the 100 m dash portion of the event, running an 11.05, good for 850 points. He also cleared 1.99 m in the high jump, matching his personal-best, giving him 794 points and tying for the top spot in the discipline.
Chris Sanders, who ranks third, in the decathlon, won the shot put portion with a throw of 13.78 m. Sanders has 3,676 points on the day.
Chaney had a long jump of 7.31 m, scoring 888 points, and a shot put of 13.60 for 704 points, and was the second-leading decathlete in those disciplines. He was third in the 400 m dash, posting a time of 50.30 and a score of 801 points.
The C-USA Outdoor Track And Field Championships hosted by Rice continue at a new start time of 10:30 a.m. on Friday, in advance of inclement weather in the Houston area.
