
Chaney Repeats C-USA Champion In The Decathlon

Clayton Chaney repeated as C-USA Champion in the decathlon, scoring a career-high 7,678 points for the victory. Rice's men's track squad has had the C-USA-winning decathlete each of the past five years.
Chaney joins Ryan Walsh (2005-06) and Philip Adam (2009-11) as the only Rice athletes to win back-to-back conference championships in the decathlon.
Chaney posted the top time among decathletes in the 110 m hurdles, running a season-best 14.44 in the event. He threw a career-best 41.73 in the discus, earning him 700 points.
Chaney cleared 4.40 m in the pole vault for 731 points. He threw a career-best 54.60 m in the javelin throw for 657 points. He capped off the event by running a 4:47.35 in the 1500 m race.
Chris Sanders finished sixth with 6,535 total points.
Gabe Cuadra finished fifth in the 10,000 m run, with a time of 30:44.36. Nick Williams finished seventh in the hammer throw with a heave of 51.12 m.
The Owls are in fourth place with 19 points. The meet continues Saturday at 4 p.m. with the long jump.
