Rice senior Rebekka Hänle, who will lead the 66th-ranked Owls into action in the Conference USA Tennis Championships on Friday in Orlando, FL, was honored by the conference on Thursday by being named to the 2011 C-USA Women's Tennis All-Academic team. The members of the team were selected in a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Hänle is a repeat honoree on the team. A mathematical economic analysis and Hispanic studies double major who owns a 3.80 GPA, she is a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and a 2009 and 2010 ITA Scholar Athlete. Hänle was also named a Rice University Honor Athlete during both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
On the court, the senior holds a 12-10 singles mark, with 10 wins coming from the No. 1 court. Hänle has also posted a 13-6 record in doubles play with partner Ana Guzman as the duo has performed exclusively at the front court and downed a pair of nationally-ranked foes.
The Owls (13-9) will open C-USA play on Friday at 2 p.m. when they face the winner of today's match between host UCF and UAB.
