Fried, Nguyen Roll to Semis at Cougar Fall Draw

The Rice University doubles team of Leah Fried and Stephanie Nguyen won a pair of matches Saturday to advance to the semifinals of their flight draw at Houston's Persona Legal Resources Cougar Fall Draw. The tandem will take on a team from Sam Houston State in the semifinals at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Fried and Nguyen defeated Southeastern Lousiana's Morgane Dadot and Marion Courbis 8-3 in an opening-round match before posting an 8-3 victory over Texas State's Gabriella Rojas and Bérénice Van Den Bergh.

Next up for Fried and Nguyen is a semifinal against Sami Houston State's Tatyana Postnikova and Nadia Dubvanskaya Sunday.

In singles semifinals Saturday, Ana Guzman dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Auburn's Plamena Kurteva while Nguyen lost in the semifinals to Houston's Charlotte Phillips 6-2, 6-3. Also Saturday, Fried won a consolation match played against Arkansas State's Ceara Howey 8-3.
