Beazant, Harmath Advance at ITA Regional

FORT WORTH - Rice University's Natalie Beazant teamed with Dominique Harmath to advance Saturday to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regional being hosted by TCU. Beazant and Harmath combined for an 8-6 win over North Texas' Ilona Serchenko and Barbora Vykydalova. The Rice tandem will play SMU's Edyta Cieplucha and Marta Lesniak Sunday morning in the quarterfinals.
In singles play, Beazant came back from an opening set loss to Texas' Elizabeth Begley to post a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory in the Round of 32 but fell in a three-set quarterfinal match against Cieplucha, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Harmath had also advanced to the Round of 32 in singles play but suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 loss to TCU's Olivia Smith.
Rice's Katie Gater advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket with a pair of singles wins on Saturday. She knocked off Texas-Pan American's Reety Raty 6-1, 6-0 before beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Sandra Burges 7-5, 6-2. Next up for Grater is a match with Texas' Juliana Galic on Sunday morning.
Also, in doubles play Saturday, Stephanie Nguyen and Ana Guzman dropped an 8-1 decision to Texas' Krista Damico and Aeriel Ellis.
Nguyen also opened singles consolation play with a 6-3, 6-0 win over SMU's Perri Anderson before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Houston's Charlotte Phillips in the back draw's fourth round.
