HOUSTON - The Rice women's tennis team starts the season with a trio of matches this weekend at Jake Hess Stadium on the Rice campus.
The Owls square off against North Texas (Saturday 3pm), Lamar (Sunday 1:30pm) and Texas-San Antonio (Monday 3pm).
"This weekend should be a good challenge for us," head coach Roger White said. "These three teams continue to get better each year we face them. We'll find out if our training and preparation is where it should be for this point in the season."
Rice is led by Julie Chao, who is ranked No. 99 by the ITA. Chao compiled a 7-3 record during the fall season, including a Round of 32 appearance at the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional championships.
"Our goal throughout the spring schedule is to prepare for the conference tournament," White said. "It's an excellent opportunity to get a sense of what it will take to be successful with three matches in three days."
