HOUSTON -- For the second year in a row Marissa Daniels won the 3700-meter course to lead the Rice women to the title, while Brad Morris paced the men's squad to a second-place finish on Saturday morning at the 33rd Annual Rice Cross Country Invitational.
The Rice women dominated the field with a 1-2-3-4-7-8 finish to total just 16 points. Daniels posted a 12:49.08, beating teammate Allison Pye by six seconds. Lennie Waite and Becky Wade checked in next. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Meghan Lemke broke up the Rice pack with her sixth-place finish, leading the Islanders to second in the team standings with 45 points.
The roles were reversed on the men's side with the Islanders finishing 1-2-4-5-7 to post 19 points. Shadrack Songok set a blistering pace on the 5400-meter course, winning in 16:58.73, 10 seconds ahead of teammate J.R. Pulido.
Morris finished in 17:24.82 to lead a 3-6-8-9-10 Rice finish as the Owls tallied 36 points. Aaron Robson was sixth with his time of 17:43.04, Edging TAMU-CC's Edward Kemie by a second. John Buck, Colby Keithan, and Scott Zivick rounded out the scoring for Rice.
In the High School divisions, the Awty International girls and the Galena Park boys won the small school varsity races. The large school varsity trophies went to the Memorial girls and the Clear Lake boys. Memorial also won the boys junior varsity race, while the Cy-Fair girls future looks solid after their win by the JV. The Stratford freshmen boys were winners of the first race of the day.

The Rice women return to action next Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station. Next on the horizon for the Rice men is a trip to Corpus Christi for the Islander Splash on Sept. 28.
