HOUSTON -- For the second-straight year, Rice senior Blair DiSesa received first-team honors on the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Women's At-Large Team Selected By CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., DiSesa led the Owls to new heights in 2006, both on the courts and in the classroom. Academically, she carries a 3.89 grade point average with a double major in economics and managerial studies. Previously this spring, she was honored with a Rice Scholar Athlete award for holding the highest GPA on the women's tennis team. In April she received the Joyce Pounds Hardy Award, which recognizes the Owls' top overall student-athlete for her efforts in sports, in the classroom and in the community. Additionally, Rice was named an ITA all-academic team the past three seasons.
On the hardcourts, DiSesa helped the Owls achieve unprecedented success as they won the program's first conference title. For her efforts, she was selected by the Conference USA coaches as the player of the year. In addition to Rice's ensuing bid to the NCAA team championships, the program's first since 1998, DiSesa received a bid to the singles championships, the first for an Owl since 1986. She finished her collegiate career with 92 singles victories, fifth all-time at Rice, including 24 in her final season.
