Mok Advances to Quarterfinals at Midland Intercollegiate

MIDLAND, Texas -- Rice senior Jason Mok had a triumphant day, winning three singles matches in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals and winning his first doubles match of the Midland Intercollegiate Tennis tournament on Friday in Midland.
Mok began the day with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Scott Bruckman of Michigan in the round of 64. He then downed Pepperdine's Andre Begemann 6-4, 6-3. In his third singles bout of the day, Mok secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Notre Dame's Brett Helgeson 6-4, 7-5.
Mok then paired with sophomore Christoph Müller for a commanding victory in the doubles round of 16, blanking the Illinois tandem of Brandon Davis and Marc Spicijaric.
Müller also played a pair of singles matches on Friday. After suffering a setback in the round of 32 after a first-round bye, he defeated Davis 7-6, 6-2 in the consolation draw.
Tournament action continues in Midland through Sunday.
