MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Rice junior Josh Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI and a run scored to help lift the United States national baseball team past visiting Nicaragua 10-0 in the fourth game of a six-game friendship series Tuesday night at Coast Federal Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Team USA has won nine consecutive games, including each of the first four games with Nicaragua, as the squad's 2005 summer tour winds down this week. Due to international travel regulations, Thursday's scheduled series finale has been moved to Wednesday as part of a doubleheader beginning at 4 pm CST (5 pm Eastern). Game one will be a seven-inning affair with the night cap scheduled for nine innings.
Rodriguez had his best outing as a member of the national team on Tuesday. The standout from South Houston High School helped spark a big, four-run second inning. Playing as the visitors, Team USA scored one in the sixth and five in the top of the ninth on the way to a 10-0 final. Vanderbilt's David Price recorded nine strikeouts in a complete-game shutout.
