Searle, Haerle Fall in Doubles Semifinals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - After winning in the quarterfinals to start the day, Rice seniors Tony Haerle and Robert Searle fell in the semifinals to conclude the Owls' stay at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships on Saturday in College Station.
Haerle and Searle began the day with a dominating 8-1 victory against sixth-seeded Hubert Chodkiewicz and Roger Gubser of Texas in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Rice duo lost 8-4 to the Longhorns' Travis Helgeson and Michael Venus, seeded seventh.
The Owls will learn on Tuesday if any players make the final cut in the 32-man ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, which is scheduled for Nov. 3-6 at Columbus, Ohio.
