Coach Smarr Says -  'This will be Rob[apos]s (our team captain) final season at Rice. He has been one of the best college players in the last three years. He has returned for his senior season with a more improved game and the attitude of a champion. He will leave Rice on a very good note with a stellar senior season. He has always been an excellent sportsman and an ambassador of Rice University.'
Rice -- Fall 2005: Went 10-4 in singles... Reached the finals of the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational and  the round of 16 in the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships... Advanced to  the doubles semifinals of the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships with partner Tony Haerle.
2004-05: Named WAC player of the year and earned all-WAC first team honors in singles and doubles, with Ben Harknett... Went 21-9 in singles after returning from an injury that kept him from competing during the fall... Posted a 8-3 singles mark against nationally-ranked opponents... Earned his third-straight berth in the NCAA singles championships... Went 15-8 in doubles with Harknett, including two wins against nationally-ranked opponents... Ended the season ranked 51st nationally in singles and 55th in doubles (with Harknett).
2003-04: Named to the all-WAC first team after helping Rice to the conference title... Finished the season with a 13-10 dual match record... Upset top-seeded Brian Wilson of Illinois, 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3, in the opening round of the NCAA tournament... Was 20-6 in doubles with three different partners... Ranked 14th in the nation in the preseason... Advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoor Championships after upsetting seventh-seeded Jesse Witten of Kentucky, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in the opening round... Semifinalist at the ITA Region VI championships.
2002-03: Named the ITA Region VI rookie of the year and the WAC freshman of the year... Also earned WAC first-team all-conference honors in singles and second-team honors with Haerle in doubles... Finished the year with a 28-7 singles mark, going 11-3 in dual-match action... Received a singles bid to the NCAA championships... Won the Virginia Invitational singles crown, winning all five matches in straight sets... Captured the ITA Region VI singles title becoming Rice[apos]s first regional singles champ... Won his first 14 matches without dropping a set.
High School -- 2002 graduate of The Leys in Cambridge, England... Achieved a high ranking of 53rd in the junior world  singles rankings and 45th in doubles... National doubles champion and singles finalist at the UK junior championships... Represented England at the U-14, 16 and 18 levels... Played at Wimbledon Juniors in 2002, making it to the doubles semifinals.
