Searle, Haerle Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals

COLLEGE STATION - Seniors Robert Searle and Tony Haerle blasted their way into the double quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships on Friday in College Station.
Searle and Haerle, unseeded in the tournament, upended SMU's third-seeded duo of Federico Murgier and Peter Oredsson with an 8-1 victory to move into the quarterfinals. The Rice tandem faces sixth-seeded Hubert Chodkiewicz and Roger Gubser of Texas on Saturday.
In singles action, Searle defeated Texas-Arlington's Diego Mattar 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, but was edged by the Mustangs' Peter Oredsson 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the quarterfinals. Sophomore Ralph Knupfer won against teammate Filip Zivojinovic, 6-4, 6-3, but his upset bid against fifth-seeded Michal Kokta of Baylor came up short in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 quarterfinal loss.
Tournament action continues through Monday.
