Women's Tennis: Owls Down Red Raiders

Playing at number one, Lewis downed Amanda Earhart 6-3, 6-0 as the Owls clinched the team victory by winning five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Sophomore Natalie Briaud blanked Christen Emmett 6-0, 6-0, the second time this spring she has held an opponent scoreless. Erin Waters, a junior, posted her seventh win in her last eight outings with a 6-2, 6-1 showing against Sonnia Orellana.
In doubles action, Briaud came close to shutting out Emmett again, teaming with freshman Jeri Gonzales to down Emmett and Renee Pereira 8-1 at number three. Lewis and partner Judith Hagedorn, a sophomore, grabbed the Owls' final victory of the day with an 8-6 win against Earhart and Ayako Suzuki at number two.
The Rice women continue their current four-game home-stand Sunday, when they host Arkansas at 12 noon.
