Mark Rodriguez enters his first season with the Rice men's and women's track & field teams in 2023-24. A veteran coach of 35 years, Rodriguez joins the Owls after spending the last 10 seasons with UTEP track & field.
A career that has included stops at Purdue, Miami (OH), Louisville and Indiana State, along others, Rodriguez began his coaching career in 1985 at Calumet High School.
His teams have earned 25 team conference championships, 20 conference runner-ups, 16 Academic All-American teams, 16 Top 25 NCAA team finishes and five Top 10 NCAA team finishes.
His athletes have amassed 519 conference place winners, 274 all-conference honorees, 214 national qualifiers, 189 school records broken, 140 national qualifiers, 118 conference champions, 93 US Championships qualifiers, 55 All-American honorees, 53 Academic All-Americans, 31 Olympic Trial Qualifiers, three NCAA National Champions, one Olympic Games finalists, among many other career accolades for his athletes.
