
Rice Sees Bright Spots at UTEP

EL PASO – The Rice women's track and field team had a great showing Friday at the Sun City Classic hosted by UTEP, finishing with several top performances and breaking the top 10 Rice all-time lists in several events.
Mckyla Van der Westhuizen claimed the lone event title in the javelin with a throw of 57 meters, while Elena Schwegman set a personal best in the event at 44.07m, ranking eighth all-time at Rice.
Morgan Fey finished with a pair of runner-up showings in the shot put and in the discus.
Riana Green set a personal best in the 200m with a time of 23.70, squeaking into the Rice all-time list at number 10.
Saniya Friendly finished third in the 100m while just missing out on a top-10 mark all-time.
Over at Texas A&M, Julia Johannesdottir completed her first collegiate heptathlon with a tremendous showing to finish sixth with 5396 points, ranking second all-time at Rice as a freshman.
