Nielson Leads Owls at Bryan Clay

AZUSA – The Rice women's track and field team had several great showings throughout the week at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, Calif. The Owls distance crew collected two top finishers and saw two enter the Rice top-10 all-time list.
Heidi Nielson had a terrific week, leading the way in the 5000m Open to finish first with a time of 16:28.65, marking the sixth-best time in Rice history.
Daphne Mayer also entered the Rice top-10 lists at ninth all-time in the 10000m with a time of 34:47.81.
Cullen Merrell had a strong showing, finishing second in the 800m open with a time of 2:09.86.
The Owls will have a full team showing next weekend at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.
