Owls See Strong Performances at Duckett

HOUSTON – The Rice women's track and field team saw a great day of competition in front of the home crowd at the 21st annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet Saturday at the Wendel D. Ley Track.
Riana Green grabbed the first event title of the night in the 400m with a personal best time of 53.79s.
Eva Vreeland followed that event win by claiming the top spot in the 400m hurdles. Julia Johannesdottir later completed the hurdle sweep after a time of 13.80s in the 100m hurdles.
Saniya Friendly had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100m and the 200m while Cullen Merrell also added a second-place finish in the 800m.
Heidi Nielson rounded out the running events with a second-place showing in the 1500m, while Katlyn Schmeltzer finished third in the 3000m steeplechase.
Alice Taylor had a strong showing in the high jump with a clearance of 1.72m, finishing fourth in the event.
