Rice Set for Meets at UH and A&M

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls women's track & field team will take part in two meets this weekend, starting at the Cameron Burrell Invite at Houston on Thursday and Friday, and finishing Saturday at the Texas A&M Alumni Muster.
Rice will have 26 athletes competing across 15 events. After being named the 2025 Joyce Pounds Hardy Award winner, Mckyla Van der Westhuizen will look to add to her already stellar resume this weekend in College Station.
Last week Rice continued to have strong performances throughout, with top showings at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.
Riana Green grabbed the first event title of the night in the 400m with a personal best time of 53.79s.
Eva Vreeland followed that event win by claiming the top spot in the 400m hurdles. Julia Johannesdottir later completed the hurdle sweep after a time of 13.80s in the 100m hurdles.
Saniya Friendly had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100m and the 200m while Cullen Merrell also added a second-place finish in the 800m.
Heidi Nielson rounded out the running events with a second-place showing in the 1500m, while Katlyn Schmeltzer finished third in the 3000m steeplechase.
Alice Taylor had a strong showing in the high jump with a clearance of 1.72m, finishing fourth in the event.
