
Rice Returns to Wendel D. Ley Track for Duckett Twilight Meet

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls women's track & field team is set for the final home meet of the season on Saturday for the 21st annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw.

Tickets for this year's meet will be sold at the door and will be cashless. Parking will be in West Lot 4.
In total, the Owls will have 28 athletes competing in 17 events. Colleges competing this weekend along with Rice are: Blinn College, Dallas Baptist, East Texas A&M, Emporia State, Hill College, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Jacksonville College, Lamar, McNeese State, Nicholls State, Northwestern State, Our Lady of the Lake, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M, TAMU-Kingsville, Texas Southern, UTRGV, UT-Tyler and Victoria College.
Last time out, Mckyla Van der Westhuizen had a terrific performance at the Drake Relays, finishing third in the WACT field of the javelin, competing against elite athletes, with a throw of 56.77m.
At the Bryan Clay Invite, Heidi Nielson had a strong showing, leading the way in the 5000m Open to finish first with a time of 16:28.65, marking the sixth-best time in Rice history.
Daphne Mayer also entered the Rice top-10 lists at ninth all-time in the 10000m with a time of 34:47.81.
Cullen Merrell had a strong showing, finishing second in the 800m open with a time of 2:09.86.
