Jalen Latta

Jalen Latta enters his third season with the women's basketball program, joining Rice in June 2024 as an assistant coach and Director of Player Development.
He is primarily responsible for player development, data analytics and social media content for the women's basketball program.
The 2025-26 season marked one of the greatest in program history, with a program-record 29 wins en route to the American Conference regular-season championship. The Owls rode a 22-game win streak, also a program record, and reached the second round of the WBIT.
In his first season at Rice, the Owls advanced to the AAC Championship game (doing so in back-to-back seasons).
Latta joins the Owls after spending a season at Campbell University, where he served as the Director of Operations and Player Development. During the 2023-24 season, Latta helped guide the Camels to a 17-14 record in the team’s first season in the CAA.
Before arriving to Campbell, Latta was a graduate assistant and student manager at NC State, where he spent time with Coach Edmonds while he was a student manager. Latta spent two seasons as a graduate assistant and three seasons as a student manager with the Wolfpack.
Latta earned his Master of Art in Liberal Studies with concentrations in Communication, Leadership and Sport in 2023 from NC State and his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a concentration in Business Administration in 2021, also from NC State.
He was also a student-athlete on the Western New England University men's basketball team during the 2016-17 season.
Latta is a native of Stamford, Connecticut, and is the son of Lenwood and Ronice Latta. He has one sister, Jordan.
