'08 Texas Bowl foes meet for the first time in the regular season

Series Notes
•This will be the second meeting between Rice and WMU, and the second meeting between Rice and any MAC member.
•The only previous meeting between the schools came in the 2008 Texas Bowl when the Owls completed a record-breaking offensive season with a 38-14 victory over the Broncos to give Rice its first bowl championship since the 1954 Cotton Bowl.
•Chase Clement threw three touchdown passes, ran for a score, and caught a TD pass from Jarett Dillard in the victory.
•The touchdown catch by Dillard was the 60th of his career to extend his NCAA record, 51 of which were thrown by Clement… Dillard's TD pass to Clement later in the game allowed them to close their careers with 52 touchdown passes as a duo, another NCAA record…The Broncos' Zach Terrell and Corey Davis finished their total with 51 touchdowns, all from Terrell to Davis.
•Rice finished the '08 season 10-3, matching the 1949 team for the most wins in school history, and the Owls received eight votes in the final AP poll (their first votes since 1961).
•This is the first of two consecutive games for the Owls against opponents who last faced Rice in a bowl game, with the Owls winning both.Rice defeated Western Michigan in the 2008 Texas Bowl and travels next week to face Fresno State, which fell to Rice in the 2014 Hawai'i Bowl.

•Rice is looking to open season 2-1 for the fourth time in the last five years and is looking to win its first two home games for the first time since 2023.
•QB Jacurri Brown is making his third consecutive start in a season for the first time in his career.
