Offense Erupts for 20 hits and 18 run
Houston- JC Davis collected a career-high five hits to highlight a 20-hit attack for Rice as the Owls rebounded from back-to-back shutouts over the weekend with their highest run total of the season, downing Texas A&M Corpus Christi 18-4 on Tuesday night at Reckling Park.
How it Happened: Rice wasted little time in restarting the offense as Paul Smith drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, scoring Davis who reached on a two-out double. They extended the lead to 4-0 with a pair in the second, but the Islanders closed to 4-3 with two in the third and one in the fourth. Davis capped a three-run response by Rice in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double. Rice added four in the fifth to push the lead to 11-4 and then added one in the sixth, two in the seventh, and four in the eighth. Reliever Ethan Atchley (4-1) was credited with the win after taking over from starter Ty Baker with one out and two on in the top of the fifth and not allowing any runs to score.
Next Up: The Owls travel to Charlotte this weekend for three games against the 49ers, Friday through Sunday before returning to Reckling Park on April 15 to face Sam Houston.
