Bakaityte Named American Women's Tennis Player of the Week

IRVING – Rice junior Uma Bakaityte was named the American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Bakaityte went 4-0 across singles and doubles as the Owls recorded a pair of wins, defeating Tulsa 7-0 and Louisiana Tech 4-0. The honor is the first of the season and the second weekly conference award for the Owls this season.
In doubles, Bakaityte teamed with Darya Schwartzman for two wins. The duo defeated Tulsa's Carolina Alonso and Maria Santos 6-1 before earning a 6-0 victory over Louisiana Tech's No. 59-ranked pair of Zoe Epps and Isabella Walker.
Bakaityte also posted a pair of singles victories. She defeated Tulsa's Alonso 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 and followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Louisiana Tech's Siana Starodubtseva on Sunday.
Rice will compete at the ITA College Tennis Weekend in San Diego, California, facing UC San Diego and San Diego on March 27 and 28.
