Rice Drops Rubber Game at South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. — Rice was held to just five hits, as South Florida grabbed the rubber game of the series, 7-2, Sunday afternoon.
Both pitchers held each other in check through the first two innings, but Rice took advantage in the third. After a leadoff walk to Mason Ashlock, Aric Anderson connected on his first career triple. Landis Davila then drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
USF answered in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, the Bulls got three straight singles. Eli Thomas followed with a double, tying the game at two. South Florida took the lead in the fifth. Bradke Lohry walked, and Thomas tripled. Nathan Early followed with his first home run of the year over the right field wall, forcing Rice to go to Ty Thames. After a pair of singles, Jacob Green drove in Lance Trippel with a double.
South Florida added a run in the sixth.
Kaden Smith moved to 3-1 with the win. Ethan Sanders (1-3) went 4.0 innings to take the loss.

Rice will stay in Houston this Wednesday, Mar. 25, when it faces HCU at Husky Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and the game will be streamed by ESPN+.
