Bakare Named American Field Athlete of the Week

IRVING – The Rice men's track and field team earned its first conference honor of the season, with Sultan Bakare being named the American Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Bakare had a tremendous showing at the Robert Platt Invite (Houston), winning the weight throw with a distance of 20.51m, while also setting a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 17.32m, the sixth best in Rice history.

Earlier this season, Bakare finished second in the weight throw at Texas A&M's Ted Nelson Invite with the third-best throw in school history at 21.06m.

The Owls are back in action this weekend at the Charlie Thomas Invite at A&M.
