HCU Opens Short Homestand

OWLS BACK HOME FOR FOUR: Rice opens a four-game homestand on Tuesday by hosting HCU for the first of two games against the Huskies. The schools will wrap up the 2026 slate with a single game at Husky Field on March 25. The homestand continues over the weekend when the Owls and Harvard Crimson meet for three games.

Tuesday (6:35) RHP Jeremiah Arnett vs. LHP Jacob Cyr
ARNETT RECOGNIZED BY AMERICAN: Jeremiah Arnett was named Honorable Mention American Conference for his stellar outing in his first start as an Owl. Arnett worked a career-long 6-1 innings against Purdue on 2/18 to close out the first homestand of the year and win for the second time in as many outings as an Owl. His outing was the longest by a Rice midweek starter since Roel Garcia worked 6.1 innings in a 7-3 win over TCU in 2018.
IN CHECK: Rice pitchers have held the opposition to a .207 batting average over the last five games (30x145), including a .214 average against a USC squad that opened the season by hitting .468 in its first four games. The Rice bullpen has held opponents to a combined .148 average over the last five games.
VS. HCU: Rice and HCU have met 39 times in baseball since 1966. Rice leads the series 33-6 and has won the last 13 of the last 15. Rice leads 28-5 at home, including a 17-3 mark at Reckling Park, 4-1 on the HCU campus, and 1-0 on a neutral field (2015 regional at Houston). Three of the Huskies' six wins have come in extra innings, the last two by 8-7 scores. Their first win came on 2/29/68 at Rice (12-11 in 10 innings), and they followed that with a win in the first game of the series in 1969 (8-3 on 2/18/69). Rice won the next 15 between the two schools before the Huskies took an 8-7 decision in 11 innings on 3/3/18 and downed Rice 8-7 in 10 innings on 2/20/21 in the first game of a four-game series.
