Owls Drop Series Finale to Wildcats
2/15/2026 5:49:00 PM | Baseball
Next Up: Louisiana, Tuesday at 6:35
Houston-JC Davis homered twice, but Northwestern answered with five longballs to avoid a season-opening sweep with a 17-6 win at Reckling Park on Sunday afternoon.
How it Happened: The Wildcats wasted no time in taking command, scoring four times in the first and three in the second, but Davis capped a five-run answer by Rice in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run to draw the Owls within two. Rice loaded the bases with one out in the second, and Hiram Bocachica Jr. broke the ice with a sacrifice fly to score Cole Green, who had led off the inning with a double. Kutter-Gage Webb scored the Owls' second run when he came home when Garet Boehm's first career hit as an Owl was misplayed for an error. Colin Robson followed with a single to score Boehm, and Davis closed out the scoring with the first of his two home runs to left. The Wildcats rebuilt the lead to 10-5 with two in the third and one in the fourth before Davis closed out the scoring for Rice with a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.
Next Up: Rice remains home with games on Tuesday vs. Louisiana (1-2) and on Wednesday against Purdue (2-1) to close out the opening homestand before embarking on a three-game trip to Los Angeles to face USC next weekend.
