HOUSTON – The Rice women's tennis team will host UTSA on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center, marking the 17th meeting in Houston between the two programs.
The Owls opened last weekend with a 4-3 win over Baylor, marking their first victory against the Bears since 1995. Francesca Maguina secured the clinching point with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win, and Rice closed the weekend with a 4-1 loss to No. 23 Washington.
Rice enters Thursday's matchup undefeated against the Roadrunners and has hosted UTSA 16 times in the series history. Head coach Elizabeth Schmidt has collected 11 wins over UTSA during her tenure. Over the past decade, the two programs have met six times, with four of those matches ending in shutout victories for the Owls.
Nithesa Selvaraj clinched wins over North Texas and Lamar in the season opener. Uma Bakaityte accounts for the Owls' other match-clinching point this year.
