HOUSTON – The Rice women's tennis team will open the Spring 2026 dual-match season at the George R. Brown Tennis Center this weekend.
The Owls will host Lamar at 1 p.m. Sunday before closing the opening weekend against Florida Atlantic at 11 a.m. Monday.
Rice enters the spring following a strong fall season, highlighted by Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte's ITA Women's All-American doubles consolation championship in Cary, N.C., while Nithesa Selvaraj went undefeated in the American individual singles consolation bracket.
Head coach Elizabeth Schmidt is looking forward to beginning the dual season at home.
"Our team has been working really hard, and I'm excited to get back on the competition court for the dual-match season," Schmidt said. "Starting at home is exciting, and we have two great matches ahead of us."
The Owls hold a 31-1 advantage in the all-time series against Lamar, including a 7-0 victory in the most recent meeting. The Owls are a perfect 23-0 against the Cardinals at home and enter the matchup riding a 19-match winning streak.
Rice is unbeaten against Florida Atlantic, winning all five previous meetings. The Owls earned a 4-2 road victory over FAU in April 2024 in Boca Raton, Fla.
